Wow, your backyard sounds eerily like ours. Except our daughters cubby is still used and she gets so upset when the chooks go in there and start pecking her little plastic kitchen. :)

Yeah they are such a great breed, so well natured, our dog tries to play with them when they escape and they just lie down... poor little buggers.

Isa Brown same as yours - good layers, gentle & dumb! From the famous Rent-A-Chook bloke in Sydney.
We have a huge backyard so fenced off the back section which is wild with all sorts of weeds etc and those two girls are doing a wonderful job of getting rid of the weeds and tilling the soil - they're amazing.
We converted the old kids cubby house into a mansion of chook pen

Hi Phil,

Yep, Pamela is a Toto song also. My daughter always forgets Pamela's name and calls the other 'Rosenana' which is cute.

Ohh, Gladys and Molly are nice names! What breed are they? (Not that I am likely to recognise it)

Yeah we give lots of eggs away as we don't eat them quick enough.

Thanks for the comment!

Rosanna I know comes from the Toto song so I guessing Pamela is a Toto song as well.

Since you are such a big Toto fan, did your chickens stand in the backyard for the first time and go "I don't think we are in Kansas anymore?"

We have GLadys and Molly in our backyard coming up two years old now (Nov 2009) and still get two eggs a day. Magnificent eating and plenty to share with the neighbours to appease the early morning chook noise.

Good luck (PS I love the Pecker Sisters! I may use that one)

Baci is starting to calm down now... But she does still try to sneak up on them from outside their run, but they just ignore her. She gets no reaction so she just gives up.

We used to have a chook that used to stand on our old dogs' backs and peck them while they were sleeping (remember that, Sophie?). Was hilarious. I love watching animals interact (providing there is no blood and gore).

Both the songs are by Toto. Pamela is less known but almost as awesome.

Um, Rosanna from Toto, but I can't remember the Pamela song, darn it! The chooks are so cute. How funny is that chook and dog story from Tricia, that poor chicken with all it's fathers licked off, what a classic!

Wow! What a run! I imagine those Pamela and Rosanna are going to be very happy in their new home. Chooks in the backyard is so lovely.

Hope your dog is settling into having them around. Our dog LOVES our chooks but luckily just ignores them now (unless we havn't walked him for a few days). Although when we firs got them, one of the chooks escaped from our back garden to where the dog is. We found the chook in the morning sitting in the middle of the yard alive but very traumatised. Our dog had licked all the feathers off its stomach!

I know the answer....but i'll admit - I had to google it! - So won't say it as thats probably cheating : ) I was old enough in the 80's that I should remember them??? But don't??
